English at Streethay

Our principal aim is to nurture, inspire and prepare our children so that they leave Streethay Primary School with a wide range of happy and rich memories in English. This is formed through interesting and exciting writing experiences and meaningful, pleasurable reading experiences that encourage children to understand the wider world around them and to use their imaginations. We encourage our pupils to acquire and use challenging vocabulary within our curriculum and promote eloquence as one of our key traits in learning.

Our English Curriculum is at the very heart of learning at Streethay and we aspire to ensure all children become confident and competent readers and writers which will enable them to achieve many future successes in their lives. Additionally, we promote speaking and listening skills throughout our curriculum and encourage pupils to grow their confidence which speech and language.

Our children will meet the National Curriculum expectations in English, which will be taught by highly qualified and trained enthusiastic staff who will support children to develop mastery of concepts and inspire enthusiasm and interest in the subject. Our English Curriculum threads through all of our other curriculum areas, where children are learning to put their knowledge into other contexts.
