Class Teacher: Mrs. Radford-Holliday
Hello, my name is Mrs. Radford- Holliday and I am the class teacher in Orchard. I am really looking forward to exploring some wonderful subjects this year with the team, especially Science, Art and DT and Reading which are my favourites. Away from school I enjoy going to the theatre, running and I love spending time outdoors with my family, particularly taking long walks with our dog Willow.
Teaching Assistant: Mrs. McGann
Hi, my name is Mrs McGann. I’m delighted to join Team Orchard this year and I’m looking forward to all the exciting learning that year 6 brings. I absolutely love reading and look after our school library. When I’m not in school, I like to enjoy the outdoors with my family and dog Winnie.
Our Approach to Learning
Year Six is an extremely exciting and very important year in school as children complete their primary education and begin to look towards the next stage. Whilst this can be a daunting time, in Orchard class we will ensure every child feels nurtured, inspired, prepared and excited for their secondary school adventure.
The KS2 National Curriculum is made up of three core subjects, and a wide variety of foundation subjects. During Year 6, as the learning becomes more challenging, children will develop their knowledge, skills, and understanding of each of these subjects. They will build on their previous learning , expanding their understanding and developing their resilience in tackling problems.
Core Subjects: English, Maths, Science.
Foundation Subjects: History, Geography, Art and Design, Design and Technology, Modern Foreign Languages, Computing, Music, PSHE, RE and PE.
Along with learning the content of the National Curriculum, the children in Orchard will focus on becoming well rounded learners through developing our Streethay character traits of resilience, curiosity, optimism, craftsmanship, empathy and eloquence. By strengthening these, children will feel confident in facing new challenges that come their way.
Our classroom environment is very calm, relaxed, kind and fun. A place where children will always feel welcome, valued and inspired to learn. We look to develop strong relationships between school and home and welcome regular communication with parents. We believe that working together is the best way for children to reach their educational potential and we encourage parental involvement in learning.
If you are a parent and have any questions or queries relating to your child’s learning, you are welcome to speak to Mrs. Radford-Holliday in person, through an arranged appointment via the office, or via email on info@streethay.set.org.
We look forward to a brilliant year together in Orchard!
We believe that homework is an excellent way for children to share learning with their families, as well as enabling them to practise and rehearse what they are learning in our school setting.
Each week a learning newsletter with suggested homework tasks is sent out on Family app and the Showbie app by the class teacher.
In KS2 all homework tasks will be set through the Showbie app. Here you will find tasks and worksheets that the children will be required to complete. Work can be completed electronically directly onto these sheets or photos and videos can be uploaded. All children in KS2 know how to access their homework and how to complete it via Showbie.
At Streethay we love to celebrate achievements and milestones outside of school also. Please message the class teacher with any news, photos or videos using the Family app.
Please use the link below to access the Family in-app help centre if you are unsure on any aspect around using the Family app.
