This week in Science, Team Starlings have been looking at the properties of materials. In this picture, we are testing the hardness of various materials by seeing how easy it is to scratch them. We then used our magnifying glass to see if there were any visible marks on our objects. 

This week, we have been learning all about keeping a balanced diet in science and the changes to scientific knowledge about nutrition. Children identified the jobs that require knowledge about nutrition, including a catering supervisor and a sports nutritionist.

Recently in our Science unit, we have been learning about the months of the years, how our local area changes from season to season and daylight hours! The children were fascinated that there were longer hours in the day during the summer months than in the winter!

This week in Science the children have wowed me when creating their own branching keys to classify different leaves. They have worked hard to identify the similarities and differences between them and come up with suitable questions to sort them. Well done everyone!

Our Science lesson this week was very exciting!

We have been exploring filtration. We looked at when filtering should be used and how filtering separates mixtures.

Our experiment involved filtering water through cotton wool, a paper towel, filter paper and gauze.
